Back in 2014 I was put in contact with bridge maker David Cunningham, owner of DC BANJOWORKSby luthier John Bowlin with happy results. For more information please refer to my profile on LinkedInor see my CV. The cost including shipping was $40. Based on his reputation and the fact that he makes many of his banjos with wooden rims I figured his bridge would be a safe bet. It was too muted, and dark, but he did his best based on my info. However, Barts response time is excellent. David noted that his bridges have a .010 arc chord depth at the base to account for the sag of the banjo head. I put it on, and it sounds really great. I wanted some new bridges for my banjos, so I found out about the dam spillway bridge, soI ordered the combo pack of 3 for $30. It immeditatly brought up the volume without killing the tone. It has a fabulous bass response and nice round mids and real pretty highs. The bridge had to be customized to match the radiussed fretboard of the banjo. Where Purchased: Directly from Randall Wyatt through Randy Odell. the banjo came equipped with a Grover compensated that sounded just okay. I may go another round at some point as I think I could have gone a bit further on the 4th string compensation, but that's on me and my measurements, not the bridge! Where Purchased: http://www.purcell-banjo-bridges.com/. 4 have been zebra with katalox, 1 is hard maple with ebony, and 1 with zebra purple heart top. I put one on my Mike Ramsey Bacon Model open-back and the result was astounding! Filling out the slots in my dream band, I asked my friend Darwin to join us. It will show you "the sound", and that is the best statement I can make for this bridge. I chose the "piano" maple cut bridge with the ebony cap. I bought an 11/16 standard spacing Roasted Red Maple bridge. The first couple of minutes playing the sound was pretty close to the Snuffy. I could not be happier. Just send him your money. As many of you recall, there were quite a bit of high praises for the Roasted Maple. Tim Purcell was born on 7 December 1949 in Hastings, East Sussex, England, UK. Sound is loud and clear. Plenty O' Volume. If your looking for a new bridge get a cunningham bridge .He's helpful and it made my banjo sound so much better. I have been playing for about a year and a half on an entry level open back banjo fitted with a Grover maple bridge with I guess it is a bone insert. They never really got to sing together until they were teenagers and even then it was rare. Thanks Mike; if I could give the bridge 15/10 I would, but 10 will have to suffice. It's built like a brick outhouse; I can't imagine that it would ever need replacing. The remaining three are probably going to migrate to my other banjos. I told Mike what I wanted and he hit a home run. It doesn't sacrifice clarity, but is free from the aggressivelybright growlthat some hardwood capped bridges tend toward, and without losing thebelltones on the high strings-- the sound of this bridgeon my fretless Reiter is exactly what I was looking for. I settled on the Dark Star because it added so much point to the front of the note, and to my ear it does a great job of highlighting the fundamental and sorting out some of the more troublesome overtones. An expert in CAD/CAM/CNC, he was a toolmaker for a firm that made tooling for a Boeing supplier. For only $25, you can't go wrong. I am including a Youtube video which will allow you to listen for the difference between the two. In short, if you're looking for a bridge, I highly recommend getting one from Tim. Comparison: Bridge prices vary widely, from $3.50 mass produced no-name products to $60 boutique handmade bridges. Saw Dave's shop. I highly recommend Renan Banjos and Tyler Burke. You won't be disappointed! Arthur makes a fantastic bridge. Not only did it balance the tone, enhancing the bottom end note's,it also cured some fret buzz problems i was having, and I have the best intonation up and down the board ever! Keep in mind that every banjo is different, both in design, and set-up. It noticeably increased the volume and clarified the tone of a parts banjo. Put a Davis compensated bridge on a Deering Golden Wreath, it made it much more full with a solid bottom end. This is a great bridge for lower head tensions. The film ends with Amelia celebrating Samuel's birthday. This bridge is the difference between night and day. I like his design very much. Other than that, enjoy Villains Wiki!!! It is perfect. This bridge was generically compensated with a flowing curve. I will be a return customer. Be the first to post a memory or condolences. View the profiles of people named Tim Purcell. Rounding out the first incarnation of F and F was my Mustangs bandmate and close friend Scott King. I have been using Bart's Bridges for a while now. When I was done I somehow convinced Sammie to come down and fool around with those intricate Garfunkel harmonies. I bought one of Danny's Beech bridges on Ebay. The Babadook makes itself visible to Amelia, spooking her by hiding in the background at first, then by turning into a big black silhouette and cornering her in her bedroom. Tim is very accomplished, respectful manager and human being. Sound quality is more continuous across the finger board. Then I removed and replaced both bridges a few times during my picking. I bought this bridge to put on my Ramsey Special 12"to try and get a plucky old time sound, well I put it on my White Mountain woody just to see what might happen, well I am going to get another bridge for the Ramsey,I have tried every set up I could think of on my WM and all it needed was a great bridge it now has a very plunky old time tone I have been chasing,Sounds good up and down the neck even got rid of a string buzz on the 3rd string,Steve is great to work with and his Craftsman skills are second to none it is a great looking bridge,Quick turn around on my order and packed well, will certainly buy another From Steve. Really adds thump, and volume. Usually there is at least one who leaves a negative comment. I recently purchased a custom compensated bridge from Bart and am very happy with it. So I E-mailed Tim and he sent me another one. Looking forward to making that happen and getting the nice, clean sound that comes from this product. My then current bridge was to thick. It is getting a really nice, ringing, bell-like tone from 12 all the way up to 22. I receive this hard maple bridge for free as my name was picked out of a hat. I can't say enough about the difference in tone and volume that I am now enjoying. I just bought one for my archtop resonator banjo too. The overall character is not quite as note separated as my previous bridge (likely more sustain) but nonetheless I really like the full complex tone of this bridge. Both the higher and lower notes seem cleaner. It not only sounds great but is a pleasure to look at and adds to my banjo's appearance. Tim treated me with good ole "North Carolina" hospitality, and his service was prompt and professionalI personally recommend his fine bridges to anyone! This is a product that would work for any style and on any banjo (I tried it for fun on my "beach banjo", a Gretsch import - and it made a HUGE difference). I could still live with the two other excellent bridges I have used until now but this new bridge has added something to the sound of my banjo that makes me want to play more often. http://www.banjohangout.org/classified/18229In the ad, and the enclosed note that accompanied the bridge, Mr. New said that he hoped the bridge would improve the sound of the buyers banjo, and give the buyer more pleasure in playing. I wasn't sure what to expect out of Locust, but what I got was something new almost haunting in G minor tuning. He is a Hangout member and an expert clawhammer player. For my open-back banjo, I am using the 11/16, old maple wood, wide width, snakewood top. This bridge (5/8th, 2.2 grams) sounds and looks great. I immediately ordered a second bridge with the same specs as a back-up. Just love this guy's voiceslaps me square and stops me in my tracks. I have a medium weight on my Gibson Black Jack and a lightweight on my Fender FB-59. I play a Reiter Special (a great instrument), but I always thought the stock 5/8" bridge led to the action being just a little high. I e-mailed Bart for input on which of his bridges would be right for my OME Triple-X (wih Silverspun tone ring). And as for Elliott Lee. The overtones were cleaner, the sound was fuller and "rounder" and the high end tone was strong and clear. Excellent bridge. I ordered the spice bridge with the purple heart pegged top- medium weight as he suggested. My banjo had a harsh ring to the fifth string and a overall sound I couldn't get right. Overall Comments. I just put one of his Ambrosia Red Maple bridges, 11/16 height with a compensated third strong top, on a maple custom Nechville I have had for a few years and I must say it is an outstanding bridge. I play clawhammer so it wasn't the right bridge for me but it might be really good for bluegrass. The banjo sounds different, much better, more like the Goldstar now. Without any problem, he said send it back and it was replaced with what he described as what many Bluegrass players use to just mellow the tone a little, so about a 1.5 on a scale of ten. This is perhaps the bridge's only weakness. Well made, good looking, traditional styled bridge with theweight, height, and spacing written on the bottom of the feet. They are every bet as good as the original SS bridges, maybe better. I originally had a Sosebee Cotton Mill bridge on my Scruggs model. It sounds great and the tone is much richer than before, and the "floppy G and D" strings are gone! For an 11" banjo I would not be sure the bass would be there with this bridge. I bought one of Tim's bridges about 2 weeks ago. It's amazing how much I've been missing. Pretty cheap way to make a big difference with a banjo . The bridges David crafted for me were the best I have ever used (See this review:http://www.banjohangout.org/reviews/search.asp?m=s&v=7955&redir=true). Banjo sounds great! Great bridge. The quality of craftsmanship is like no other as well. It's an elegant looking bridge as well. This profile was gathered from multiple public and Really very nicely crafted and he's a fine fellow to do business with. Not too dark, not too right. It is purrrrrrfect And just mellowed the tone/brightness a little. Not this one. I guess another way to say it is that it is much less plunckier that the stock Deering bridge and slightly more brilliant than the Moon bridges I have on my stuff. It was a pretty impressive process with Mr. Veerman , at one point suggesting that I might not want to purchase his bridge if I could get my own to work by slanting it to flat the 4 and 5 string. One more time! Different bridges and different banjos all respond and interact differently and what works on one rig might not work on another..but for sure this bridge is staying on this banjo. Thanks, Silvio!! I bought 2 bridges and they both are excellent. The feet are nice and wide, making the bridge pretty stable. Bridges I have gotten are built of woods more specifically built for open back banjos using spruce and locust capped with Gabon ebony.
